We are proud to share that The Mohicans Treehouse Resort was recently featured by Midwest Living as one of the Midwest's most unique places to stay. For a treehouse resort on 75 wooded acres in Ohio's Mohican Valley, this recognition from a respected travel and lifestyle publication means a great deal to our whole team.

What the Midwest Living Feature Means for Our Ohio Treehouse Resort

The article places our treehouses alongside glamping tents and other standout getaways across the region. It confirms what guests have told us for years. Sleeping among the trees is something you remember long after checkout, and it deserves a place on any list of unique places to stay in Ohio.

Recognition From a Trusted Midwest Travel Publication

Midwest Living is one of the region's best known travel and lifestyle publications, and being included in their roundup is an honor. You can read the full piece in Midwest Living's guide to the Midwest's most unique stays, where our property appears alongside other one of a kind getaways chosen for their character, their setting, and the kind of experience you cannot get at a chain hotel.

We are grateful to every guest who helped build the reputation that caught their attention.

Meet Little Red, the Treehouse in the Spotlight

The stay Midwest Living chose to feature is our Little Red Treehouse, pictured with woodland views from its wraparound porch. Little Red has a story all its own. The original was built in March 2013 by Pete Nelson's crew and a local Amish crew, and it was featured on the television series Treehouse Masters.

Today's Little Red is a fresh adaptation of that iconic structure. We kept the signature red siding and the gothic stained glass window that guests remember, then added a sleek, contemporary kitchen with open shelving, radiant heat hickory floors, a stone steam shower, two window seats, and a spacious loft with a king bed. Set atop a wooded rise, its deck and stone fire pit are perfect for morning coffee and quiet evenings.

Built by Local Hands With Reclaimed Materials

Craftsmanship sits at the heart of everything we build here. As a family run resort, we built our treehouses and cabins with local labor and a strong focus on sustainability. Many units use reclaimed barn beams, windows, and doors, along with passive solar design, radiant heat, and wood milled right here on the property. Handcrafted Amish details show up throughout, proving that thoughtful building and comfort can live side by side in the trees.

Ten Treehouses, Four Cabins, and Two Country Homes

While Little Red earned the spotlight, it is one of many stays across the property. Our Ohio treehouse rentals include two designed by Pete Nelson, plus our Airstream treehouse, a vintage trailer set high in the canopy. El Castillo, The View, Moonlight, Old Pine, Tin Shed, The Nest, White Oak, and the Wildwood Tent each bring their own layout and charm.

Traveling with a larger group? Our cabins near Mohican State Park, including The Mohican, which sleeps up to 15, work well for families and friends. About two and a half miles away, The Farm House and The Manor offer private country home stays with room to spread out and a slower pace for everyone.

Your Basecamp for Mohican State Park

We sit close to Mohican State Park, which makes us an easy choice for travelers searching for lodging near Mohican State Park. Spend your days hiking forest trails, exploring the Loudonville area, visiting Pleasant Hill Lake, or riding the Mohican Valley Trail, then come back to your treehouse for a fire and a quiet night under the stars. The park is known for the Clear Fork Gorge, Lyons Falls, and scenic overlooks that make every hike worthwhile.

A Quiet Gateway to Amish Country

We are located in Knox County, right next to Holmes County, which makes us a natural home base for exploring Amish Country Ohio. Guests often spend a day browsing shops and bakeries in Millersburg, Walnut Creek, and Sugarcreek, then return to the woods for the evening. Pairing a day of small town charm with a night in the trees is one of the most rewarding ways to experience this part of the state. It is a big reason so many travelers look for lodging near Amish Country with more character than a standard motel.

Planning Your Own One of a Kind Getaway

If the Midwest Living feature has you dreaming about a stay in the trees, now is a great time to plan. Couples looking for romantic getaways in Ohio tend to love our smaller treehouses, while families gravitate toward the cabins and country homes. Monday through Wednesday stays open up to one year ahead, as well as all days December 15th through February 28th. Thursday through Sunday dates open roughly three months in advance, so plan early for your favorite unit.

Thank You, Midwest Living

Being recognized by Midwest Living as one of the Midwest's most unique stays is a proud moment for everyone at The Mohicans. We are grateful to the Midwest Living team for sharing our story and to every guest who has made these treehouses feel like home. We cannot wait to welcome you to the forest, so book Little Red or any of our treehouses today and see for yourself why we made the list.
