Booking a Luxury Treehouse in Ohio: What the First Hour at the Wildwood Tent Feels Like

a room with tables and chairs

Two bald eagles, inside the first hour on the property. That's what one guest told us after a stay in the Wildwood Tent at The Mohicans, booked as a surprise for a friend. Nobody plans that part. You set your bags down, step out onto the deck, and the woods do whatever the woods are doing that day. It's a decent way to explain what a luxury treehouse in Ohio is like here at The Mohicans, because the moment people bring up afterward is usually not the one they booked for.

The Wildwood Tent at The Mohicans is a luxury treehouse in Ohio that sleeps four across two queen beds. It has a full bathroom with a steam shower, plus heat and air conditioning, all surrounded by 77 wooded acres in Glenmont. Check in is at 3 pm, and the property sits about ninety minutes from both Columbus and Cleveland, close to Mohican State Park and Amish Country.

What a Luxury Treehouse Stay in Ohio Looks Like at The Mohicans

Luxury here means something fairly specific. A real bathroom. Beds people write to us about. Heat and air conditioning that hold steady while the weather outside does whatever it wants. And woods instead of a parking lot on the other side of the window. Here's what that looks like in practice.

The Wildwood Tent, in plain terms

We added the Wildwood Tent in 2024, and it's become an easy recommendation for a small group. It sleeps four across two queen beds. The bathroom is full sized and includes a steam shower, which is not a sentence most people expect to read about a treehouse. Heat and air conditioning are both in place, so the season outside stays something you look at rather than something you endure. Guests keep circling back to the same detail when they write to us, and it's the bedding. One recent group described the beds and linens as the part they weren't ready for.

Why the first hour tends to stick

Check in is at 3 pm and check out is at 10 am, and that first afternoon is the stretch we'd tell you not to rush. The drive runs over gravel and some steep ground, and the speed limit on the property is five miles an hour. None of that is an accident. It slows you down before you've parked. Seventy seven wooded acres sit around you once you're here. We can't schedule wildlife and won't pretend otherwise, but the group who spotted those eagles wasn't out looking for them. They'd been here less than an hour.

Every reason to stay in

Design is the thing guests comment on first, and the word that keeps coming up is intentional. Very little in the Wildwood Tent is there by default. People arrive with a list of trails and towns, then spend a long stretch of the first evening simply not going anywhere, which is fine by us. A treehouse comfortable enough to keep you inside it is doing its job. Recovering from a full day out is a lot easier when the room you come back to is actually restful.

And every reason to head out

Mohican State Park is close, and the Mohican Valley Trail runs 4.5 miles for anyone who wants a set distance to cover. Pleasant Hill Lake and Dam is nearby, as is Findley State Park. On the property there's a half acre pond, and fishing there is catch and release only, so bring a rod rather than a swimsuit. Amish Country sits in the other direction. Millersburg, Walnut Creek and Sugarcreek all work as a day out, and Sunny Slope Winery is in that same stretch. Columbus and Cleveland are each about ninety minutes away, close enough that getting here is an afternoon rather than a trip.

Conclusion

One thing worth knowing before you book. We host three weddings most weekends, so a full weekend of lodging usually isn't available. When there's a Saturday or Sunday event, lodging is a single night, the night of the event. Friday events open up two nights, Thursday and Friday. Monday through Wednesday is where we have the most room to work with, and those midweek nights open a full year ahead. Thursday through Sunday nights from March through November open roughly sixty to ninety days out. Mid-December through February all dates are available to book one year in advance. If you're set on one particular treehouse, midweek is the honest answer.

The guest who booked the Wildwood Tent as a surprise told us they want to come back and see the property in a different season. We hear that often. Something about arriving in the afternoon and letting the day rearrange itself makes people want a second version of it.
