FOR THE KIDS
If you’re planning a night with your kids, plan out some games and fun activities to occupy them while they are outside! Get things like footballs, hula hoops, and ESPECIALLY anything that glows in the dark. That will keep them entertained until they are ready to hit the sleeping bags! Just make sure to douse them in bug spray before sending them out. (Check out this post for more fun glow-in-the-dark kids activities)
FOR THE FRIENDS
If you’re planning on inviting friends over and spending some time outside, glow in the dark toys might not cut it. Most of my favorite nights with friends have started with bonfires. There are a few things that are essential for a good fire: a fire (you’d be surprised how many people plan them but don’t know how to start one), snacks, drinks, blankets, and chairs. Emphasis on the chairs. If people are forced to sit on the ground for hours on end, they’ll probably just want to leave.
FOR THE COUPLES
One of the most underrated forms of entertainment are outdoor movies. If you have a projector and a white tarp or sheet (I’ve even seen people just use the siding of their house!) you’re good to go. Just set up some comfy seating, maybe string up some cute fairy lights, and enjoy a movie! And this idea is not just for couples. Throw a scary movie on for you and your friends, or some Disney films for the kids!
